Here We Are, in the Future

We think about the future when the new year rolls around… its normal. An old year has ended; a new one begins. Every ending is also a beginning. Think about it… the start of a new year represents a chance for fresh starts and positive change. It's a time to reflect on the past year, set goals for the future, and embrace change.

At Christmas, we all wondered what 2025 would bring- it was the future. Well, here we are. A famous writer once said, “I’m interested in the future; after all, I’m going to spend the rest of my life there!” And we’ve already seen big news in 2025- on the tragic side, the terrible fires in LA. On the plus side, the hopeful cease-fire in the Mideast. What about the rest of 2025? What will happen around the world? What will happen to you?

To make the most of this new year:

First, reflect on the past: Consider what you've experienced in the past year. Maybe there are some things you need to let go of. Or a friendship to mend. Or an obligation to fulfill. Don’t put it off and drag that into 2025.

Second, visualize your future. Pastor Mark has been talking about the importance of vision. Imagine (or visualize) what you want to achieve in the coming year. As you pray and as God for guidance and direction, picture yourself healthier, serving God and others more, finding purpose in your daily life, whatever age you are.

Third, set some new goals: Make resolutions for things you want to change or recommit to goals you're already working on, based on what you visualize in your future. Consider getting involved more at CCC in one of the 5 new ministries that Pastor Mark is helping us launch. Or, read through the Bible with us- you’ll find a guide in the foyer as you enter the sanctuary.

Finally, Celebrate: Every day is a gift from God, isn’t it? Have fun with loved ones!, spend a little extra money on others- and yourself. Maybe you can celebrate by giving to a new charity. If God has blessed you, pass that blessing on- it’s more blessed to give than to receive (and more joyful, too!)

Will 2025 have challenges for you and setbacks?... it surely will. But God promises to guide our steps and show us the way. If you walk close to Him, He will show you your path. As David says in Psalm 16, “You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence there is abundant joy… “ God will be with you every day, everywhere. He already knows everything about 2025. Let’s step into each new day’s ‘future,’ keeping in step with God’s loving Spirit!
